Apostolic Exhortation Proclaiming the Gospel
Paul VI, Pope
Pope Paul VI’s encyclical letter on preaching the Gospel in today’s world
Ten years after the close of the Second Vatican Council, Pope Paul VI wrote his landmark exhortation Evangelii Nuntiandi. To this day it remains the fundamental text for a church striving to proclaim the Gospel to all people.
Pope Paul VI asks three basic questions:
In our day, what has happened to that hidden energy of the Good News, which is able to have a powerful effect on mans conscience?
To what extent and in what way is that evangelical force capable of really transforming the people of this century?
What methods should be followed in order that the power of the Gospel may have its effect?
His providential answers to these questions have ensured the lasting appeal of this document and its continuing benefit to a missionary Church.
